The Kelly Project

The Kelly Project is a first step endowment program initiated by Diane Hayes for women afflicted with breast cancer.
The Kelly Project is a first step endowment program for women afflicted with breast cancer. It was created to honour the life of Kelly Sauvé. The Kelly Project is now managed under the auspices of Breast Cancer Action (BCA). The BCA provides the program that women can qualify for a certificate redeemable at Kelly’s Boutique for a post-op garment to assist in their wellness transition after surgery. The camisole provided at no cost is designed by Amoena for wear after a lumpectomy or mastectomy. The specifically crafted garment features a drain containment device, zip front closure and padded, stretchable fabric straps that fasten in front. The ultra-soft fabric infused with Vitamin E and aloe microcapsules continually releases moisturizing benefits to the skin. Two post-surgical forms and two removable drain pouches are included. The garment also provides gentle compression to enable support and comfort. A post-op surgical camisole for women after mastectomy is a key item. It is a vital bridge in a woman’s wellness regime after surgery. Until a cure is found, the Kelly Project wants to ensure that all women with limited monetary resources are given the opportunity to obtain this important first step wellness garment.
Diane Hayes is the project coordinator for The Kelly Project and the owner of Kelly’s Boutique. In November 2002, Diane’s sister-in-law, Kelly Sauvé was stricken with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer. She was 31 years-young. After a courageous battle, Kelly succumbed to the disease in February 2005. To honour Kelly’s life, Diane opened Kelly’s, a boutique dedicated to mastectomy wear. She later created The Kelly Project: a first step endowment/wellness program for women with limited monetary resources. Countless of women have taken part in the program, many referred by their nurse, surgeon or clinic. If you know someone who will undergo or has recently underwent a lumpectomy or mastectomy you may want to tell them about The Kelly Project.
